What a Tank!
🧠 Let Us Think
1What do we use a water tank for?
A water tank is used to store water — hundreds or even thousands of litres — for daily use in homes, so that water is available even when the regular supply is not running.
2Where is Punjab located on the map of India?
Punjab is a state located in the northwestern part of India.
3How are the water tanks in Punjab made?
First, a frame is built using steel rods. Then concrete is used to give it its final shape. The tank is then installed on the roof of the house, ready to hold hundreds of litres of water.
4How do the unique shapes of water tanks reflect the identity of the house owners?
The shape often reflects the owner's profession or interests — for example, a farmer's house may have a tank shaped like a tractor or bullock cart, while someone who loves football may choose a football-shaped tank.
✍️ Let Us Learn
5Write the contractions for: do not, is not, are not, cannot, could not, did not.
don't, isn't, aren't, can't, couldn't, didn't
6Rewrite the underlined words using contracted forms.
Passage 1: Partho isn't feeling well today. His parents have decided that he will stay at home till he gets better. Partho is bored and can't stay at home anymore. He decides to ask his grandmother if he can go outside, but he thinks she, too, wouldn't agree.

Passage 2: It is a rainy day, and Tina isn't happy. She can't go out to play with her friends. Her brother doesn't want to play indoors either. They have decided to watch a movie instead.
7Find exclamatory sentences and identify the emotion, and name four emotions.
Exclamatory sentences use words like 'Wow', 'Hurrah', 'Oh' along with an exclamation mark (!) to show strong feeling — for example, 'That's so creative!' shows amazement/wonder, and 'Hurrah! India has won the match.' shows joy/excitement. Four emotions: happiness, surprise, excitement, sadness.
🗣️ Let Us Speak
8Say aloud 'What a tank!' and 'Water tank' — do they mean the same thing?
Both phrases use the word 'tank', but they do not mean the same thing. 'What a tank!' is an exclamation showing surprise or admiration about a tank, while 'Water tank' simply names a container that stores water. Similarly, 'I scream' and 'Ice cream' sound similar but mean completely different things.
