Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), formerly the University of Indore, is a public state university established in 1964 by an Act of the Legislature of Madhya Pradesh and inaugurated by Dr. Zakir Hussain, then Vice President of India. It is an affiliating university whose jurisdiction covers the Indore division, including seven tribal-dominated districts, and it has 294 affiliated colleges in addition to its own teaching departments. Academic work is organised across 33 teaching departments and centres offering programmes in sixteen faculties, with well-known constituent institutes such as the Institute of Management Studies and the Institute of Engineering and Technology. DAVV was the first state university in Madhya Pradesh to be accredited with an A+ grade by NAAC. Admission to professional courses is through a Computer Based Common Entrance Test (CET). The university operates the Nalanda and Takshashila campuses and was ranked 49th among State Public Universities in NIRF 2025.
