Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University of Social Sciences (BRAUSS) is a state university established in 2016 by the Government of Madhya Pradesh under the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University of Social Sciences Act, 2015. It is located at Dr. Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) on the Old Agra-Mumbai Road in Indore district and is recognised as the first university in India devoted specifically to the social sciences. Its motto, Atta Deepo Bhava, translates as be a light unto yourself. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission and approved by AICTE, and it delivers its academic work through five schools: the School of Dr. Ambedkar's Thoughts and Philosophy, the School of Social Sciences and Management Studies, the School of Agriculture and Rural Development, the School of Education and Skill Development and the School of Law and Social Justice. Programmes run at undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil and doctoral level, and admission to M.Sc, MPhil and PhD is based on an entrance examination conducted by the university itself. Being a state institution, its fees are far lower than at private universities in the region.
